Android 2.1 And Motorola: Droid update out this week We knew Android 2.1 was coming for the Droid, but we didn't expect it to come this soon. Motorola is now reporting via its official Facebook page that it's "happy to relay the 2.1 upgrade to Droid will start to roll out this week," going on to tease that it "will have more information to share on other device upgrades later." There's no detail on what the Droid update will entail or whether it'll roll out to every user this week (we doubt it), but by all indications, this is a promising sign that Moto's keeping the pedal to the metal.
For DROID users, Who are tired of waiting for Android’s 2.1 firmware to finally hit your handset!!!! Don’t want to risk bricking your phone by using a leaked or hacked ROM dump of 2.1? Well, good news. The waiting is over! you lucky DROID users will start to see 2.1 roll out from Verizon. So, what goodies should you be expecting to super-size your smartphone?
* Live Wallpapers
* Three new home screens
* Google News & Weather widget
* Speech-to-Text (voice recognition for every text entry field)
* Speed (expect faster transitions and performance as 2.1 more efficiently makes use of that Arm® Cortex™ A8 550 mHz processor)
Alas, there’s no update rolling out with this 2.1 DROID upgrade that would include flash 10 support. We’re keeping our eyes peeled as one thing we don’t want to see is 2.1 removing the DROID’s corporate calendar feature (which is very sorely missing from the Nexus One’s implementation of 2.1).
We suspect more than a few users would be frustrated if that feature bombs. So, happy DROID owners, let us know how your 2.1 upgrade goes. As for People who are still waiting on the android 2.1 update for HTC HERO and Samsung Moment you will still have to wait but hopefully for not too long. Sprint had previously told us via Twitter that they would update all of their Android devices to Android 2.1 in the first half of 2010.
